All because.....

someone didn't care, and was irresponsible. Dumping these puppies off on the side of the road is horrible, but it's not the only thing these pups have to endure.
Their life as it would have been with a mom is forever changed.
They don't get to bond with mom, they don't get to drink from mom, they don't get to do anything a normal pup does.
Below are some reasons why not having mom around is a big problem for us and the pups:

1) Normally puppies have a chance to nurse off mom off and on all the time. There's no set schedule, such as exactly every 1 hr., or every 3 hrs., etc. They nurse from time to time as mom allows. Because these pups have no mom, they are fed around the clock yes, but they don't get it off and on throughout the day like they could from mom. It's on a schedule. Yes, that schedule may work but it's not what is best for them. Which leads me to my next point.

2) When they have mom there to nurse off and on from they always have something to suckle from. Without mom, they find something else to suckle from and this normally is in the form of a brother or sister's belly button or private parts. Even if they have just had a bottle and aren't hungry, their natural instinct is to have something almost constantly there to suckle from. Therefore when they don't have mom, the only time they suck off anything is when we feed them their bottles. So when they feel the urge or need to suck, they do it off the only thing possible, and that is a brother or sister. Pacificers do not work, because the way the puppies suck off of them moves the pacificer to much and it doesn't stay in their mouth.

3) Normally puppies are cleaned by mom round the clock without fail. As soon as they potty she cleans it, or as soon as they drink, she'll make them potty. Without Mom, we can only clean them so well, and therefore if they use the bathroom when we aren't around, no one is there to clean it up. Therefore if they roll in their poop, lay in it, or anything else that could be done with it, it makes a huge mess for us and them. They end up needing mini baths, and sometimes baths, and we only have the ability to clean them so well.

4) Not only is cleaning the poop off of them a messy job, it's even messier when the puppies have loose poop. Loose poop can come from many different things: stress, worms, food change, etc. We have no way of knowing if these pups had any wormers. Odds are they didn't. Someone who is willing to dump them off in teen temperatures without a care in the world, wouldn't obviously care at all to properly worm them. Right now their systems aren't completely normal. When they have loose poop, and poop it in the playpen when we aren't there, it makes even more of a mess when the pups are in there. This is nothing that can be controlled. It COULD have been, had someone there again not dumped them.

5) Yes, I mentioned food change as a cause for loose poop. The reason for this is, these puppies stomachs weren't designed to be fed any kind of milk except moms. It can be done, but it takes twice as long for their stomachs to get normal when they are fed a milk, that isn't mom's natural milk. Puppies naturally get messed up tummy's after birth because of the stress during delivery but soon after being on mom's milk, they settle down normally and their stomachs get to normal. With feeding canned milk, it's as close to mom's as we can get, but still it's not the same. Nothing compares to what nature and God intended.

6) Because of the size of this litter, and the size of the messes they produce, it means washing towels non-stop. We are washing atleast 1 load of covers a day, sometimes 2 depending on how messy the pups have been. This is one more thing to add to our running list of things to do. Just as we finish with the pups it's almost time to feed and clean again. In between all of this finding time to wash covers, still take care of the other dogs at the rescue, setting up appointments, running the website/petfinder, etc. It is a constant thing that is non-stop.

I'm sure there are more reasons to list, but I'll stop here for now.

Whoever did this didn't care, and probably still doesn't care about these puppies. They could care less about the burden it placed on these pups, the burden placed on us, and the burden it places on those who donate. Whoever dumped these puppies out was thinking of a "quick" fix for them. They probably didn't care what burden it would place on anyone. It didn't matter to them the time that would be involved, the lost sleep, the money that would be needed, the donations needed, and all the other stuff that goes along with it. They were able to dump them, leave and go back to normal life. Even if you put the puppies and us aside for a second, what about the mother dog who had these puppies? With having 10 puppies, she probably had a nice sized bag. She could get mastitis if the milk isn't relived off of her properly(by her pups). Which is an infection and she could die. Emotionally she also delivered all 10 of these pups and had them taken away from her. Imagine how she feels? What if you(for the ladies) had a baby (or for the guys their wife had one), and then in a week's time it was taken from you and given to someone else? It wasn't fair to her. On top of all of this, if she survives, she will probably remained unspayed, have more puppies in 4-6 months, and the same person who dumped these puppies will dump another litter of them. It's an endless cycle, because they are irresponsible and probably don't care.
