Meet our Chipmunks

On January 10, 2010, the H.A.R.T. Foundation in Lexington, NC recieved a call from a lady saying she had found 10 puppies along side the road in a box nearly frozen to death. Their eyes were still closed, meaning they were around 1 wk. old give or take. She wanted to know if HART could take these puppies in and bottlefeed them. Amy(owner of HART) had just had her mom pass away about 2 hrs. prior to this phone call. Amy couldn't take the puppies because she couldn't care for them at that time with everything else going on. She asked us (a family of 6, whom volunteer for her) if we wanted to take them in, bottlefeed and foster them. We have helped out in situations like this before, and we knew the task that lay ahead of us. Never before had we had 10 to feed all at once though. We knew the challenge we had ahead. Feeding them round the clock every two hours, cleaning their bottoms, cleaning their cage, and generally being an adoptive mom. It wasn't easy, but hey, if it meant saving the lives of these 10 innocent babies we would do so, no matter at what cost. They deserve a second chance at life, they didn't choose this. All because some cruel and mean person chose to let their unspayed female dog have puppies, and then to dump them in the freezing cold all alone. These puppies didn't decide to come into this world. The irresponsible owner is the reason for everybit of this. That owner is the reason we have 10 puppies, who are motherless, and the reason for everybit of lost sleep, time, etc. As I sit here now typing this, it is almost time for them to be fed again. Yes it interupts alot of things, I'm not going to lie and say it doesn't. But it's a neccesary thing, when there are such awful people in this world. It means putting everything else on the back burner everytime they need fed, it means waking up at night no matter when they whine or whimper wanting a bottle, and well, I think you get the jist of what it all means. Alot of people don't understand what all it involves. They really have no idea, although I don't expect them to know fully how this feels, until you've been there. When you bottlefeed puppies (or any animal) it makes you learn a lot about yourself, and it teaches you A LOT of responsiblity. You have a life, or in this case 10, depending on every thing you do or don't do with them. They are helpless, and without any defense.

You ask the reason for Meet our Chipmunks as the title?? Well, these puppies have all been named after Alvin, Simon, Theadore and the others. Therefore, you get to follow/meet our Chipmunks. :)

The ones in charge of this blog will be the two main foster moms, Sharon and Sarah
The others who are helping with the care of them some, is Bonnie, Susanna, Samuel and Samantha.

We will update this blog as often as our time allows between sleeping puppies, and carrying on about our normal life as best as we can.
We don't know how things are going to work out, or if all 10 will make it. We believe they will be fine but we have no way of knowing for sure.
If at some point you decide you are interested in one of these babies, please email us and you can place a deposit down for the puppy, after your application has been approved. The puppies should be available at approx. 7 wks. of age. At which time they would have already been on a regular worming schedule and have their first puppy shot.
We are putting their birthdate as January 03,2010. This is the best time we can figure they were born around. This also happens to be the birthday of Amy(HART's founder).
